The pool parking lot will be blocked off and unavailable Sunday afternoon, September 11th through Wednesday morning, September 14th for maintenance, resurfacing and repainting. Please take care not to walk on, ride bikes or other toys on or drive on the parking lot surface during this time.
The Blackthorne Estates Homes Association has commissioned Midwest Asphalt Coatings to perform preventative maintenance on the pool parking lot to help extend the useful life of the current asphalt by seal-coating. Inspection of the parking lot during the neighborhood pool party identified significant risk for freeze/thaw damage due to gaps between the parking lot asphalt and the concrete curbs as well as deterioration due to leaked automobile fluids. Bids were solicited from three reputable, local asphalt contractors.
By taking this action now, we hope to avoid or defer future expenses related to removal and replacement of the parking lot surface. The Advisory Board will be blocking off the parking lot entrance Sunday evening. Midwest Asphalt Coatings will be peparing the surface, applying hot rubber expansion sealant in the edge gaps and major cracks and then applying multiple coats of surface seal coat on Monday. After the re-surfacing material has cured, they will be back on Tuesday to repaint handicapped parking lines. Inclement weather may result in extending the maintenance event and prolonging the parking lot closure. Since the pool has already been closed for the season, this should not pose a significant inconvenience for Blackthorne Estates residents.
